"Thoughts" of Tableau Kōbō

What is carved on the glass"Thoughts"
Made by Tableau Kōbō
The world of "glass sculpture"

It is said that glass was born about 5,000 years ago. A wide variety of techniques were invented during the Mesopotamian era (c. 300 BC). I am still fascinated by the brilliance of beautiful glass, and the desire of my husband to devote himself to expressing it more beautifully remains unchanged.

One of them is the sandblasting technique that we mainly handle. By spraying fine grain of sand, a cloudy part and a glossy and colored part are created to express the pattern. This technique is a development of the technique used by master Emile Gallé during the Art Nouveau period, which was popular in Europe from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Galle's work, which expresses a fantastic world by engraving a cover glass, still holds a lot of people.

In addition, we have adopted traditional Japanese techniques such as Edo Kiriko to deliver original products created by "engraving on glass".

Edo and Europe.
Expressing a fusion of people

"Choukoku Glass" that represents Tableau Kōbō. Auspicious patterns such as iron wire and grapes are engraved by sandblasting on a vessel that is blown with two or three layers of original colored glass one by one, and expressed in contrast with the color. The stories of the passing era and the events that you want to keep in mind. And it is a series with the theme of carving a dream pattern that makes you feel at home in your daily life on glass.

Made in Tokyo "Edo Glass". It is a glass that is made by each worker using traditional techniques that have continued since the Edo period. Tableau Kōbō's Edo Kiriko series is centered around designs with the motifs of small patterns and ukiyo-e, which have been loved since the Edo period. We have created highly original works created by our technology, such as collaboration between sandblasting and Edo Kiriko.

And the traditional art product "Edo Kiriko" that represents Japan. It is said that in 1834 (Tenpo 5th year), Kyubei Kagaya, a Biidoro shop in Edoden-cho, carved a glass surface with hard sand. In the Meiji era, the European cut glass technique was adopted, and the technique of "Edo Kiriko" handed down to the present age was confirmed. Edo Kiriko of Taburō Kōbō creates works with original designs, both works backed by the experience of skilled workers and works with a new sense.

The brand name of "Tableau Kōbō" means "painting". The three series represent a world that fuses the technologies and sensibilities of Edo and Europe. As the name suggests, I would like to create a painting-like work that captures people.

Handmade glass that makes your day
a little richer

What we are making is a "vessel". To decorate the table or room as a glass or water, or as a vase or interior, to enrich the space and time. We think that is the role of the vessel that seems to be close to our daily lives. What kind of things can be put in and where should they be placed? I would like to continue to create works that will add color to my thoughts by looking at the color of the glass and the sculpture design.

To that end, we will continue to stick to the original quality, color, shape, and design of the glass, and make extremely handmade glass that is unique to Tableau Kōbō. Isn't that an important task for us, who inherit the history of glass over 5,000 years and connect it to the future?

As an item that enriches your daily life, we hope that you will enjoy using the glass of Tableau Kōbō for a long time at your own expense.
