Edo Kiriko is said to have been carved on the surface of glass with Kongo sand by Kyubei Kagaya, a bedroya in Edo Odenma-cho, in 1834. In the Meiji period( 1868-1912) european cut glass techniques were used, and it became the "Edo-Kiriko" that was transmitted to the present day.
Edo-Kiriko was designated as a traditional craft of The Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 1985 and as a national traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2002.
In addition to works by skilled craftsmen, Tableau Kōbō's "Edo Kiriko" also produces works with a new sense.
